A Longtime Boynton Park Is Being Reimagined For The Future
Pence Park Could Become One of Boynton’s Most Improved Public Spaces
Pence Park could soon get a major makeover. Boynton Beach is moving forward with plans to redevelop the neighborhood park at 600 SE 4th Street, turning it into a more modern and flexible recreation space for residents. The project is expected to include four pickleball courts, a multipurpose synthetic turf field, new restrooms, storage areas, office space, and a multipurpose room for community use. The Boynton Beach CRA lists $4.4 million in funding for Pence Park Reconstruction, making this more than a routine park refresh.
It is a major investment in one of the city’s public spaces. For families, athletes, pickleball players, and nearby residents, the improvements could make the park more useful, accessible, and inviting. It also reflects a larger push to upgrade Boynton’s parks and public amenities as the city continues to grow and attract new development. If completed as planned, Pence Park could become a stronger neighborhood gathering place - not just a field, but a real community hub for years to come.
Millions Could Be Headed to Boynton Neighborhoods - Residents Can Help Decide Where
Millions of federal dollars could soon be invested in Boynton Beach neighborhoods and city officials are asking residents where they believe the money should go. Through the federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, Boynton Beach receives funding each year to support projects that improve neighborhoods and quality of life. The money can be used for a wide range of improvements, including repairing sidewalks, upgrading parks and community facilities, improving streets and drainage, rehabilitating older homes, and supporting programs that benefit low- and moderate-income residents.
Before the funding is allocated, the city gathers public input to help determine which projects should receive priority. While the program may not grab headlines like a major new development, its impact can be felt in neighborhoods throughout the city for years to come. Residents who take part in the process have an opportunity to influence how these federal dollars are spent, helping shape future improvements that could make Boynton Beach safer, more attractive, and a better place to live.

🤔 Did You Know?
In the 1940’s-70’s roadside stands were all over Boynton. One such place was the Florieda Gift Shop on South Federal Highway. Its unusual name was intentional and extremely memorable. With a Gulf filling station, a tropical market, and a gift shop, it was a popular spot to visit. Travelers pulled in for freshly squeezed citrus juice, alligator handbags, tropical gifts, and more. This unique shop reflected an era when US 1 was Boynton’s main tourist route before I-95 changed travel patterns.
