A New Senior Tax Break Could Cut Your 2025 Bill — Here’s Who Qualifies
How the 2025 Senior Bonus could reduce what you owe - and keep more in your pocket
Seniors are finally getting a meaningful tax break. A new federal “Senior Bonus Deduction,” signed into law in July 2025, allows qualifying taxpayers age 65 and older to deduct up to $6,000 - or $12,000 for married couples filing jointly when both spouses are 65+. The deduction is available for the 2025 tax year and is scheduled to remain in place through 2028.
Importantly, it stacks on top of either the standard or itemized deduction. That means it reduces taxable income even further. To qualify for the full amount, single filers must have a modified adjusted gross income (MAGI) of $75,000 or less, while married couples filing jointly must be at $150,000 or below. If you are 65+, we recommend you talk with a tax professional about this deduction - especially if your income is close to the cutoff.
April Vote Looms as Tensions Rise Over AI Data Center Proposal
Hundreds of residents voiced strong opposition at a Feb. 25 town hall in Royal Palm Beach over the proposed AI data center known as Project Tango. The 200-acre site near 20-Mile Bend, approved in 2016, is planned to include 3.7 million square feet of data center and warehouse space. Neighbors cited concerns about water use, strain on utilities, constant lighting, and noise affecting nearby homes and schools. County officials said public input is being reviewed, but the project cannot be stopped solely due to opposition. A commission vote on zoning and related details is set for April 23.
Prime I-95 Property Up for Debate - Boynton Residents Asked to Weigh In
Boynton Beach officials are seeking public input on the future of a key 2.11-acre site at 480 W. Boynton Beach Blvd, near I-95’s Exit 57. The property, formerly home to the demolished Inn at Boynton Beach, sits within a major “gateway” corridor to the city. The Community Redevelopment Agency is considering low-density or mixed-use development and wants residents’ feedback on preferred businesses and amenities. Survey responses will help shape planning decisions for the area. The survey is open through April 6 on the BBCRA website and Facebook page.
