After 41 years of shopping bags, food-court lunches and “meet you at the mall,” Boynton Beach Mall appears headed for its final checkout. Owner Washington Prime Group confirmed a pending sale and says the mall is expected to remain open through January 15, 2027. Tenants have received lease termination notices, and some longtime shopkeepers are already packing up. The buyer and sale price haven’t been announced. For generations of Boynton residents, this isn’t just another empty storefront. It’s the end of a familiar hometown landmark.
So what replaces the aging mall on Congress Avenue? The roughly 91-acre property has been marketed for a mix of homes, shops and offices, with zoning that could accommodate at least 1,700 residences. But no specific redevelopment plan has been approved. JCPenney, Cinemark and Christ Fellowship may remain open beyond January. New housing and businesses could breathe life into the property. Of course, residents will have one pressing question: What happens to traffic?

A $380 Million Transformation Is Underway In West Boynton!
Apparently, there’s no shortage of people looking to spend their golden years in West Boynton Beach! Back on February 13, we first reported on The Winsberg at Green Cay. It’s a massive new luxury senior living community taking shape near Jog Road and Flavor Pict Road. Just recently, there’s an impressive update: more than 70% of its 220 planned residences are already under contract - even though completion isn’t expected until late 2028. The $380.6 million project will feature upscale independent living, assisted living and memory care accommodations.
It will also include resort-style amenities designed for active seniors. With construction underway and so many residences already spoken for, The Winsberg is clearly attracting considerable interest from future residents. And here’s the interesting part: We’re still more than two years away from the anticipated opening! We’ll be keeping an eye on construction progress, including a bird’s-eye view as this ambitious West Boynton development continues to take shape.

In 1960, a most unusual birth at Goolsby and Son Dairy, near Lawrence Road and the Boynton Canal, made local headlines. A calf was born with five legs, attracting the attention of local news outlets! Operated by Walter Goolsby and his son Theodore, the dairy was part of West Boynton’s early agricultural heritage, long before residential neighborhoods transformed the landscape.
