Are HOAs a ‘Failed Experiment’? One Lawmaker Thinks So
Rising disputes and legal battles fuel push for HOA reform in Florida
HOAs and condo associations are nearly unavoidable in Boynton Beach — they come with the territory. Now, Florida lawmakers are debating sweeping reform. Miami-area Representative Juan Carlos Porras is drafting legislation that would let communities vote to dissolve failing HOAs. He’s called HOAs a ‘failed experiment’ with ‘authoritarian boards’ that have ‘no accountability.’
The push comes from rising homeowner dissatisfaction over fees, selective enforcement, and costly legal battles. Trade groups warn that removing HOAs raises questions about maintaining amenities and could increase property taxes. If passed, the legislation could impact Boynton Beach communities, but it’s not yet formal law. Stay tuned as debates heat up next session.
West Boynton Traffic Project Now Complete
Boynton Beach Blvd (SR 804) from US 441/7 to Lyons just got a $3.2 million upgrade. Milling and resurfacing wrapped up recently to improve road quality and safety for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.
The project added 6-foot bike lanes in each direction and a new eastbound sidewalk from US 441/7 to past the E-1 canal. Improvements near Bethesda West Hospital include reconstructed sidewalks, curb ramps, and new signage. This is well-needed. Our West Boynton corridor will now be safer and more accessible to all.
Grocery Prices Drop Just in Time for the Holidays
Good news for your holiday shopping: tariff rollbacks just made some grocery staples cheaper. Trump signed an executive order exempting several food products that were driving up costs at the store. Coffee, tea, bananas, beef, beans, nuts, and certain spices are now cheaper thanks to new trade agreements between the US and supplying countries. Congratulations, your holiday feast just got a little more affordable. At least for now.
Pickleball, America’s fastest-growing sport, has become a phenomenon in Boynton Beach and beyond with nearly 20 million players nationwide. It’s easy, fun, and creates great social connections.
