After 41 years of shopping bags, food-court lunches and weekend movie dates, Boynton Beach Mall is preparing for a dramatic makeover. And now we know who’s behind it. Homebuilding giant Lennar has confirmed plans to purchase the sprawling 91-acre property on Congress Avenue, with the deal expected to close in early 2027. The company’s preliminary vision includes homes, shops, restaurants, public spaces and community facilities. In other words, the old mall could eventually become an entirely new neighborhood.

But don’t start packing your moving boxes just yet. Lennar hasn’t announced how many homes it plans to build or when construction might begin. The company says it wants community input before finalizing its plans. Meanwhile, most remaining mall tenants are expected to leave by January 15, although JCPenney, Cinemark and Christ Fellowship could stay longer. For longtime Boynton residents, it’s a bittersweet farewell to a familiar landmark—and the beginning of an intriguing new chapter.

A New DMV Office Is Taking Shape in Western Delray Beach

Good news for western Boynton residents who dread a trip to the DMV! Construction is underway on a new, modern Palm Beach County Tax Collector’s Office at 15560 Lyons Road, just south of Atlantic Avenue. The nearly 24,000-square-foot facility is expected to open in 2027, replacing the aging office on Congress Avenue in Delray Beach. The county purchased the 4.2-acre property for approximately $4.3 million, with plans for more service windows, plenty of parking and a dedicated driving-test area.
The new location will handle driver’s licenses, vehicle registrations, title transfers and other services. For many western Boynton residents, that could mean a shorter drive and, hopefully, less time waiting around. Not everyone is celebrating, however. Some nearby homeowners worry about increased traffic and development in the Agricultural Reserve. Still, if everything goes according to plan, your next DMV visit might actually be a little more pleasant!
