Florida’s License Plates May Soon Look Very Different
This New Florida Bill Could End Annual License Plate Stickers
A new proposal introduced by South Florida Representative Tom Fabricio aims to eliminate Florida’s annual vehicle registration stickers. Governor Ron DeSantis supports the move to remove the outdated yellow decals. They’re not only unattractive, but also prone to fading, peeling, and theft by criminals who remove them illegally. If approved, Florida would follow other states that have successfully transitioned away from registration stickers, giving Boynton Beach residents and Floridians statewide reason for optimism.
The registration and renewal process would remain the same, but verification would shift to a digital system used by law enforcement. This would eliminate the need for physical decals. The change would reduce costs tied to sticker production, replacement, and mailing, potentially saving residents money while improving security. By cutting down on theft and counterfeiting, the proposal aims to create a safer, more efficient vehicle registration system. The bill will be considered during the legislative session beginning January 13, 2026. If passed and signed into law, the change would take effect on July 1, 2026.
