Growth Vs. Preservation: The Fight Over West Boynton’s Future At The Ag Reserve
Community Pushback Forces Major Revisions To Controversial Development Plan
A major residential and big-box retail project in West Boynton is being revised after strong community opposition, delaying its planned April 2026 review before the Palm Beach County Planning Commission. Developer West Boynton Ranches says it will reconsider elements of the proposal and seek more input before moving forward. The controversy centers on building within the Agricultural Reserve, where county rules cap development at one million square feet - meaning any expansion could come at the expense of protected farmland.

The Coalition of Boynton West Residential Associations (COBWRA), a long-standing civic group focused on limiting overdevelopment, has pushed back hard, citing concerns about density and proximity to existing homes near Valencia Reserve. This decision could shape the future of growth in western Boynton - affecting traffic, property values, open space, and whether large-scale retail (like a possible Costco) becomes part of the Ag Reserve landscape. The Boynton Weekly will continue following the story.
Dining Out In Boynton Beach? Read This Before Your Next Meal

Health inspections resumed January 5 across Palm Beach County, and the results show Boynton Beach restaurants have had a bumpy start to the year. Of 173 inspections posted on the state’s DBPR database, 66 establishments failed on their initial visit - more than one in three. Late January saw the sharpest spike, with 14 restaurants failing in a single week, while early February continued the trend with another double-digit tally.
Violations included improper food temperature control, unsanitary prep areas, pest activity, and dishwashing sanitation issues - problems that can impact food safety if not corrected. While many restaurants fix issues quickly and pass re-inspections, the reports provide a snapshot of where standards fell short. For diners, the data is both transparency and a reminder that inspections play a key role in protecting public health. Historic Tax Shift Proposed For Florida Homeowners
Florida lawmakers are advancing a proposal that could dramatically reshape property taxes across the state. The Florida House has approved HJR 203, a measure that would gradually eliminate non-school property taxes on homestead properties by increasing the exemption each year through 2037. Supporters say it would bring significant relief to homeowners, but critics warn it could strip local governments (including Palm Beach County) of hundreds of millions of dollars used to fund fire rescue, law enforcement, and infrastructure.
Two related proposals are also under consideration, including one that would sharply expand the homestead exemption for insured homeowners and another that would limit how often property values can be reassessed. Governor DeSantis has urged caution, signaling support for reform but not a rushed process. If ultimately approved by voters in November 2026, the measure would mark one of the most sweeping property tax changes in Florida history.

Hi, thanks for creating The Boynton Weekly. Just wanted to note the Florida Turnpike label in the map of the Agricultural Reserve Area is placed incorrectly.
