Project Tango Paused… But The Real Impact On Boynton Is Still Coming
Why This AI Data Center Has Boynton Residents Paying Attention
Project Tango, a proposed 200-acre AI “hyperscale” data center near Southern Boulevard and 20 Mile Bend, has been postponed and will now be reconsidered by Palm Beach County Commissioners on July 15th. Originally approved as a smaller facility, the project has expanded significantly, triggering new approvals and strong public opposition over concerns about noise, environmental impact, and infrastructure strain. For Boynton Beach residents, the stakes are real even outside city limits.
These data centers require massive electricity and water usage, which could drive up already rising FPL rates and strain the shared aquifer that supplies Boynton’s water - especially during drought conditions. Looking ahead, continued revisions and mounting community pressure suggest uncertainty for the project. If approved, its ripple effects could impact utility costs and resources countywide. For now, the delay buys time, but the final decision could shape the region’s future - including our city, Boynton Beach.
No Shade, No Shelter: The Daily Struggle Of Boynton Bus Riders
Along Boynton Beach Blvd, many bus stops are little more than a sign - no bench, no shelter, and often no shade. According to a recent WPTV report, nearly 40 stops line the corridor. Yet in one half-mile stretch, only one stop offered cover from the elements. For riders, that means standing in the relentless Florida sun or being drenched in sudden downpours with nowhere to sit or stay dry.
Boynton residents recently voiced frustration, describing their daily waits in extreme heat or rain. For many, public transit isn’t optional - it’s essential. City officials say the issue is complicated by space limits, private property, and coordination with Palm Tran, which oversees bus stops. While shelters are planned, progress will be slow and funding-dependent. For now, riders must wait, adapt, and hope relief arrives sooner than later.
