Scammers Are Getting Smarter - And Boynton Residents Are Paying the Price
Your Property Could Be At Risk: The Silent Fraud Spreading In Boynton
At a recent Boynton Beach City Commission meeting, officials warned residents about a surge in scams targeting the area - especially older adults. Speakers, including Laurie Berman and Rob Long, highlighted rising cases of property deed fraud, guardianship fraud, and impersonation scams, where criminals pose as police or government agencies. This matters locally because Boynton’s large 55+ population makes it a prime target, and these scams are becoming more sophisticated.
To protect yourself: always verify unexpected calls, emails, or letters -especially those requesting money or personal information. Confirm jury duty or ticket notices through official sources, and never act on pressure. When traveling, have someone monitor your home and collect mail to avoid signaling vacancy. Residents can also sign up for property fraud alerts through the Palm Beach County Clerk & Comptroller. Bottom line: stay alert, verify everything, and report anything suspicious. Awareness is your best defense.
A Massive New Development Is Rising On Ocean Ave - Here’s What’s Coming
Construction is accelerating at The Villages at East Ocean Avenue - and it’s no longer just another project. It’s quickly becoming the centerpiece of a changing downtown skyline. What started quietly is now one of the most important developments shaping the future of Ocean Avenue. Here’s the reality: 336 apartments, 8,000 square feet of retail and restaurants, and 668 parking spaces are all being built to bring consistent foot traffic and energy back into the area.
This isn’t just construction, it’s a deliberate push to create a walkable, active downtown that Boynton has long been missing. Why it matters: more residents living downtown means more customers for local businesses, safer and more active streets, and a stronger local economy. This is how a city goes from “drive-through” to destination. And this is only the beginning. Phase 2 will expand the vision with townhomes, live-work spaces, additional retail, plus plazas and a park designed to connect the area. The future? A downtown that finally feels alive - not someday, but soon.

The Boynton Inlet pier began in the 1920s after the inlet opened in 1927, quickly becoming a favorite fishing spot thanks to its strong tides. Early wooden versions were often destroyed by storms and shifting sands. Over time, it was rebuilt stronger each time, evolving into the durable concrete pier that stands today.
