The Boynton Beach Your Parents Knew Is Gone Forever
Remember Boynton Beach in the 90s? Here's What Changed
Three decades ago, Boynton Beach was a different world. In 1995, the city was home to around 50,000 residents - nearly 33,000 fewer than today’s 83,000 plus population. Interestingly, crime was a persistent concern, with rates significantly higher than they are now. Downtown felt quieter and less connected - still searching for its identity.
A typical home cost a fraction of today’s prices. What $100,000 might have bought you in the mid-90s now requires nearly $400,000! The city leaned heavily on retirees and seasonal visitors, with far less of the international diversity that defines Boynton Beach today. In 2025, nearly one in three residents was born abroad, bringing new cultures and energy to every neighborhood in the city.
As temperatures drop below 50 degrees in Boynton Beach, cold-blooded iguanas experience paralysis and fall from trees, potentially landing on cars, sidewalks, and people before recovering when it warms up. Meanwhile, coyote sightings have increased, including a recent dog attack in Boynton Lakes. To stay safe, residents should secure garbage, pick up fallen fruit, keep pets enclosed, and use short leashes during walks. Visit myfwc.com for more wildlife safety information.
