🏛️What the Government Shutdown Means for Boynton Beach
Many Boynton residents are now feeling the pain
If you’ve been following the news, you know there’s a government shutdown happening right now - and it’s affecting our city in ways you might not realize. First off, if you’re trying to buy or sell a home in a flood zone, you’re stuck because FEMA isn’t processing flood insurance policies, which means no mortgages can close. Additionally, our local food banks, including the Feeding South Florida facility on Park Ridge Boulevard, are scrambling to help federal workers who aren’t getting paychecks. The food bank is also desperately in need of more volunteers and donations.
If you have travel plans, expect passport delays and keep in mind that TSA agents at Palm Beach International may be working without pay - so pack some extra patience. And now people on Obamacare may see their subsidy money largely reduced. On top of that, yesterday, the government failed for a 10th time to put forth legislation to reopen. Bottom line: this shutdown isn’t just a Washington problem - it’s affecting real people and families right here in Boynton Beach. Unfortunately, each day that passes it gets worse.

🤔 Did You Know?
🍍Before Boynton was known for its beautiful beaches, it was famous for pineapple and tomato farms. In the early 1900s, the city actually shipped thousands of crates north via the Florida East Coast Railway.
Today, you can spot subtle nods to that heritage — like “Pineapple Grove Way” in nearby Delray and local events that still feature tropical fruit flair.
