Boynton Beach Is Exploding — And Many Locals Are Asking If It’s Too Much
Is Boynton Beach Still a Great Place to Live… or Are We Reaching the Breaking Point?
Boynton Beach had just 1,053 residents in 1930. Today, we're nearing 84,000 people with relentless growth transforming the city. Farms, nurseries, and open fields have vanished, replaced by concrete developments and traffic-choked roads. Dirt roads have become six-to-eight lane thoroughfares with stoplights every quarter mile. Even historic Florida homes, rich in architectural character, are being bulldozed as if they never existed. In 2000, Boynton had 60,389 residents and a median home price of $96,100.
In 2026, the population has jumped 40%, median income has risen to $72,000, and homes cost over $350,000. We're approaching 50,000 housing units with density exceeding 5,000 people per square mile - it feels crowded. The blades of grass and sugar cane fields that once swayed in gentle Florida breezes are disappearing in the blink of an eye. Even with the city's Comprehensive Plan 2045 guiding development, the question looms: how much more growth can we handle? Will Boynton Beach remain a great place to settle and enjoy life? Only time will reveal what this city becomes in another 25 years.
